Women's Soccer 9/11/2017 4:30:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. For Communications Boyar Named ECC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played September 4-10. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. Boyar scored three goals over two games last week, helping Daemen pick up non-league victories over Lake Erie College (2-1 [OT] on Sept. 8) and Tiffin University (2-0 on Sept. 10) to move to 2-1-1 on the season. Boyar, who became the first freshman since 2008 to lead the team in goals and points last season, posted her first tally of the 2017 season in dramatic fashion Friday vs. Lake Erie. The sophomore forward capitalized on a penalty kick opportunity that was whistled when freshman forward Kayla Neumann (Wilson, N.Y.) was hauled down in the box during the first overtime period. Boyar calmly stepped to the penalty kick area and buried a high shot over the diving save attempt of Lake Erie goalkeeper Marissa Brannon, delivering the Wildcats' first win of the season. She followed up by notching both goals in the Wildcats' shutout of Tiffin. Boyar got Daemen on the board at the 29:03 mark, and added an insurance tally off a feed from redshirt junior Sarah Britton (Syracuse, N.Y.) at the 75:18 mark. Boyar registered seven total shots and five shots on goal in the game. It was the second multi-goal game of her career. Boyar, who was a one-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree last season, becomes the first Daemen player to earn ECC Offensive Player of the Week honors since former Wildcat forward Samantha Engel did so in the final week of the 2013 season. Since Daemen joined the league that season, Boyar's selection is the fourth for a Wildcat player overall (Engel was a two-time selection in 2013, Kacey Bougard was a one-time selection in 2013). For the season, Boyar ranks in the top three among the ECC leaders in total goals (3), points (7) and shot attempts (24). In her career, Boyar has registered nine goals and 22 points in 20 games played. Daemen is 4-2-1 in games that Boyar records a goal. Boyar and the Wildcats are back in action this Saturday, Sept. 16 in the team's ECC opener at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
