White Named ECC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman goalkeeper Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played September 4-10. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

White went the distance between the pipes and recorded 16 total saves in Daemen's two games last week, picking up the first two wins of her collegiate career as the Wildcats downed non-league foes Lake Erie College (2-1 [OT] on Sept. 8) and Tiffin University (2-0 on Sept. 10) to move to 2-1-1 on the season.

White made five saves, including one in the overtime period, during Friday's win over Lake Erie. The win snapped a six-game winless drought (0-5-1) dating back to last season, and it marked the Wildcats' first win in the all-time series against the Storm (1-3 all-time).

White followed up by recording the first shutout of her career in Sunday's defeat of Tiffin. Her 11 saves are the second most by any ECC goalkeeper this season, and they were the most for a Daemen goalkeeper in a shutout since Kathryn Haessner made nine stops in a 2-0 win over University of Maine-Fort Kent on Sept. 7, 2013.

For the season, White ranks in the top three among the ECC leaders in total goals against (3), goals-against average (0.53), total saves (27) and save percentage (.931). Her efforts through the team's first four games have helped Daemen rank second in the league as a team in goals-against average (0.93).

Since Daemen joined the ECC in 2013, White is just the second Daemen player to garner Defensive Player of the Week honors. She joins former Wildcat goalkeeper Jackie Wescott who earned the honor last season (Sept. 6-11, 2016). 

White and the Wildcats are back in action this Saturday, Sept. 16 in the team's ECC opener at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
