Women's Soccer 9/25/2017 4:00:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. For Communications Flores Named ECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Flores (West Seattle, Wash.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for games played September 18-24. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. Flores made six saves and registered her first career shutout in Daemen 1-0 (2OT) win at Clarion University last Tuesday, Sept. 19. Flores, who was making her first career start between the pipes, went the distance, playing more than 103 minutes in the contest and delivering Daemen's second shutout of the season. The win was Daemen's fourth-straight, a streak that was snapped with a 3-1 loss to nationally-ranked Long Island University Post last Saturday, Sept 23. It was the Wildcats' longest winning streak since a seven-game streak that spanned the final five games of 2012 and the first two of 2013. It was also Daemen's third-straight win in games that went to overtime this season; the Wildcats are 3-0-1 this season in overtime games, extending a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) that dates back to the 2015 season. Flores' selection marks the second-straight ECC Rookie of the Week honor for a Daemen player. Freshman goalkeeper Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) earned the honor for Sept. 11-18 after making nine saves in a nine saves in Daemen's 2-1 (OT) victory Sept. 16 at St. Thomas Aquinas College. White becomes the fifth Daemen player to garner ECC Rookie of the Week honors, joining Kathryn Haessner (Sept. 2-8, 2013) and teammates Meaghan O'Leary (Oct. 5-12, 2015), Jamie Boyar (Sept. 12-18, 2016) and White. For the season, Flores has appeared in two games and holds a 1-1-0 overall record with a 1.22 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage. Combining with White, the pair of freshmen net-minders has helped Daemen rank fourth in the league in fewest goals allowed (8) and goals-against average (1.06) so far this season. Flores and the Wildcats are back in action with a non-conference home game Tuesday, Sept. 26 vs. unbeaten Goldey-Beacom College (6-0-1).
