AMHERST, N.Y. — Daemen College Director of Athletics Bridget Niland has announced that the College has arranged for Tan Tara Golf Club to be the official home of the Daemen's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II men's golf team.
Located just 10 miles from the Daemen campus, Tan Tara was built in 1968 by architect Tennis Schreckengost and over the years has transformed into one of the most challenging championship golf courses in all of Western New York.
"We appreciate the good work of our head men's golf coach Kyle Harman, who facilitated our partnership with Tan Tara Golf Club," said Niland. "This relationship will provide a first-rate venue for our men's golf team as we continue to build our program."
The agreement allows for members of the Daemen golf team to have access to the course and driving range for independent practice rounds, and allows for scheduled team practices as well.
Tan Tara general manager Scott Arnold jumped at the opportunity to build a relationship with Daemen Atheltics.
"The Tan Tara membership is made up of true golf enthusiasts, supporting golf in all its forms - professional, amateur, family and junior," said Arnold. "Which makes our partnership with the Daemen golf team meaningful and exciting for us to get behind."
The Daemen golf program has a short, but successful history. Formed during Daemen's National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) era, the Wildcats placed second at the American Mideast Conference championship tournament in both 2011 and 2012. Daemen began a three-year transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II in the fall of 2012 and during that time the Wildcats claimed three-straight United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championships. Daemen is now a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC), but since the ECC does not sponsor men's golf as a championship sport the Wildcats have been competing as a NCAA Division II independent.
