AMHERST, N.Y. - Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played January 1-7. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Filbert, a 5-foot-9 redshirt freshman guard, played 53 of a possible 55 minutes in Daemen's lone game of the week—a 97-91 triple overtime loss at regionally-ranked Roberts Wesleyan College this past Saturday. She connected of 6-of-14 shots from the field and totaled 19 points and 10 rebounds en route to her first career double-double. She established her career-high for three-pointers (4), rebounds (10) and steals (3) in the game, and the 19 points equaled her career-high which she posted in a recent 64-60 loss at the University of Bridgeport.

Filbert has now scored in double figures in three of the last four games, and has averaged 11.0 points and 5.8 rebounds since being inserted in the starting lineup six games ago. For the season, she ranks second on the team in points per game (8.4) and is also contributing 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. She has drained 11 three-pointers on the year, which ranks fifth on the team.

Filbert's selection marks the third straight week that a Daemen player has earned accolades from the ECC. Freshman forward Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y.) was the ECC Rookie of the Week for December 11-17, and senior guard Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y.) was the ECC Player of the Week for the extended period of December 18-31. Saba, who went over 1,500 points for her career during Saturday's game, was also named to the conference's weekly honor roll today. 

Filbert and the Wildcats are back in action Wednesday (Jan. 10) when they host the University of the District of Columbia in a conference game at 10 a.m.
