McColl Announces Two Men's Soccer Recruiting Commitments

AMHERST, N.Y. - Two prospective student-athletes have signed letters of intent to join the Daemen College men's soccer program head coach Bobby McColl announced today, the opening day of the NCAA Early Signing Period. The two signees - Andrew Male (Columbus, Ohio/Ontario) and Ryan Moretta (Buffalo, N.Y./Cheektowaga Central) - are both freshmen-to-be, and they will enroll in classes and join the program beginning in the Fall 2018 semester,

"We are really excited to welcome Andrew and Ryan to the Wildcat family," said McColl, who recently presided over one of the best seasons in team history. "Both players exhibit all of the qualities we are looking for in our student-athletes, and they will be excellent additions to the college and the men's soccer program."

Male makes the longer trek of the two, coming to Daemen after a four-year varsity career at Ontario High School where he played for coach Chris McClenathan. While there, the 5-foot-10 central midfielder established team records for career goals (52) and assists (41), as well as single-season benchmarks for goals (26) and assists (20). A two-time first team All-District honoree, Male was awarded second team All-State honors following both his junior and senior seasons.

"Andrew will bring competition to the midfield, an area where we are losing a couple of influential seniors," said McColl. "Despite being from Ohio, he is very familiar with Daemen through family ties here in the Buffalo area."

Moretta, a 6-foot-1 goalkeeper, was a two-year letter-winner for the Cheektowaga Central Warriors and coach Matthew Haberl. During that time, he posted a 1.67 goals-against average, third-best in team history, while earning first team All-Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division III honors in both his junior and senior seasons. A team co-captain and Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, Moretta recorded seven shutouts over his scholastic career.

"Ryan will come in and push our returning goalkeepers," said McColl. "We are particular excited to attract another top player from the Buffalo area here to Daemen."

The pair of signees joins a Daemen team that is set to return 21 players from its 2017 team which 7-11-0 overall which matched the program record for overall wins in a season. The Wildcats also posted a 3-6-0 record in East Coast Conference play, marking the team's most wins since joining the league back in 2013.
