2018 Outdoor Track & Field Schedule Announced

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen College track and field program has officially released the outdoor portion of its 2017-18 schedule, which includes hosting the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Williamsville South High School in late April, announced today by head coach Paul Lagno

The outdoor season officially gets underway on Saturday, March 31 when Lagno's squad participates in the Geneseo Invitational hosted by the State University of New York at Geneseo. It will mark the second consecutive year that Daemen has opened the outdoor season at Geneseo. A week later (Saturday, April 7), Daemen will travel to Clinton, N.Y. for the Hamilton Invitational, hosted by Hamilton College. Daemen will send a select group of distance runners to participate in the Brockport Friday Night Invite on April 13, while the rest of the team will take part in the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational the following day.

The conference championship meet comes to the Buffalo-Niagara Region on Saturday, April 21, marking the first time that Daemen has hosted a track and field competition since the inception of the program in 2011. The meet will take place at the newly built multi-purpose turf field stadium at Williamsville South High School, just a short, three-mile drive down Main Street from the Daemen campus. The $8.3 million project has a 2,700-seat capacity and includes an eight-lane track, with ten lanes on the straightaways. The stadium also includes new stations for discus, javelin, long jump, high jump, triple jumps and pole vault. Last season, the Wildcat women posted a fifth-place showing out of seven competing teams at the ECC Championship meet, while the Wildcat men finished fourth out of six squads.

The Wildcats continue competition the following weekend, traveling just three miles to the UB Stadium to partake in the Buffalo Invitational hosted by the Bulls on Saturday, April 28. It will mark the third straight season that Daemen has participated in the meet.

The regular season wraps up on Friday, May 11 with Daemen visiting the Allegheny Gator Invite in Meadville, Pa. This meet represents athletes' final opportunity to qualify for the 2018 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships which is slated for May 24-26 at the Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, N.C.
