White Earns ECC Rookie of the Week Honors For Third Time

AMHERST, N.Y. - Caroline White (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played January 29-February 4. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

It marks the second straight week, and the third time in the past seven weeks, that White has earned the honor. Only Daeja Quick of the University of the District of Columbia has earned the honor more times (4) this season. Daemen has now produced the ECC Rookie of the Week in four of the last seven weeks, as redshirt freshman Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) earned the honor following games played Jan. 1-7.

White, a 5-foot-11 freshman forward, shot 43 percent (10-for-23) from the field and averaged 13.0 points and 8.0 rebounds during a 1-1 week. She totaled eight points and eight rebounds in a 73-54 loss to regionally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas College, and two days later led the Wildcats to a 71-62 win over District of Columbia with 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals. She connected on 7-of-13 shots against UDC and scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half. She came one point shy of equaling her career-high of 19 points, which she posted in a 79-76 win over New York Institute of Technology on Jan. 14. It marked Daemen's first-ever victory over NYIT since joining the ECC in 2013-14.

White has now scored in double figures in seven of the last 14 games, and has averaged 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds over that same stretch. She has also made at least one three-pointer in 10-straight games and has connected on seven of her last 15 (47%) three-point attempts.

For the season, White has played in all 23 games (16 as a starter), and ranks third in both scoring average (8.2 ppg) and rebounds per game (5.3 rpg). She also ranks second in three-pointers made (28).

White and the Wildcats (10-13, 7-6 ECC) have won five of their last seven games and sit in fifth place in the ECC standings with five games remaining in the regular season. The top six teams earn a bid to the upcoming ECC Championship Tournament. Daemen is looking to make its first-ever appearance in the ECC Tournament.

Daemen is idle until Friday (Feb. 9) when it hosts regionally-ranked Roberts Wesleyan College in an ECC game. RWC outlasted Daemen, 97-91, in a triple overtime thriller in Rochester a month ago. White played 53 of a possible 55 minutes in that game and registered her first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
