Student-Athletes Continue To Shine Academically By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications General | 6/28/2018 9:30:00 AM AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College student-athletes continue to shine in pursuit of their respective academic endeavors. The college's student-athlete body, consisting of more than 200 individuals, posted a collective grade-point average (GPA) of 3.12 during the Spring 2018 semester, up from 3.05 last fall, and marking the 10th consecutive semester that they've achieved a collective GPA of 3.0 or better. Daemen, which sponsored 16 intercollegiate athletic programs during the semester, saw 133 student-athletes individually achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher. That represents 66.5 percent of Daemen's total student-athlete body. In addition, 101 student-athletes were eligible for the Dean's List which requires a GPA of 3.3 or higher. Nine student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester. Breaking down the numbers even further, 13 of the 16 intercollegiate programs achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The women's triathlon team (3.72) edged the women's volleyball (3.65) and men's golf (3.61) teams for the highest GPA among teams. Other programs that went over 3.0 include: men's cross country (3.34), men's track and field (3.09), women's basketball (3.35), women's bowling (3.19), women's cross country (3.15), women's track and field (3.21), women's soccer (3.26) and women's tennis (3.47). "Once again I am delighted to see that our student-athletes are excelling academically," said interim athletics director Brandi Guerinot. "I am so proud of the work they put into the classroom. We emphasize the importance of academic achievement daily, so it is rewarding for the student-athletes to see their success."
