Egan Chosen For Team IMPACT Fellowship

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College women's basketball student-athlete Erin Egan (Williamsville, N.Y.) has been chosen to fulfill a fellowship with Team IMPACT, a national nonprofit organization that provides an extended support network to children living with serious and chronic illnesses by matching them with a college athletic team in their immediate area.

As a Team IMPACT fellow, Egan will play an integral role in supporting the development of Team IMPACT on campus, while also engaging with the surrounding community to educate others in hopes of driving increased participation. Egan will also be invited to participate in a three-day conference to be held in Boston which will include intensive sessions, workshops and networking opportunities, all with an eye on full integrating Team IMPACT within each fellows' athletic and greater campus community. Dates for the conference are yet to be announced.

Egan, who will enter her senior season with the Wildcats this winter, has been a consistent leader for the team's community outreach efforts. She has been heavily involved as the team liaison for Sofia Reisman, a Team IMPACT child who has been paired with the Daemen women's basketball team for the past three seasons.

"I have witnessed first-hand how Erin goes the extra mile with our Team IMPACT child, Sofia," said Jenepher Banker, Daemen's head women's basketball coach. "It's evident each and every time they interact just how much Erin truly cares about Sofia's welfare, and how the experience she's having with our team can have a profoundly positive affect on her day-to-day life. In her new role as a Team IMPACT fellow, Erin will have the opportunity to spread that influence so that more Daemen teams and student-athletes can make an impact on the lives of more Team IMPACT children. I think she is the perfect person for this fellowship position."

Egan's fellowship responsibilities will include facilitating trainings for new teams on campus who are interested in drafting a Team IMPACT child onto their roster, leading annual refresher trainings for teams already matched with a Team IMPACT child, educating the athletic department and larger campus community to ensure an understanding of Team IMPACT and its mission, helping to coordinate draft days when a new Team IMPACT child is paired with a Daemen team, and organizing fundraising events to raise awareness for Team IMPACT.

"I am very excited to be working with Team IMPACT because the organization has made such a difference in my life," said Egan. "This gives me a great opportunity to give other children and student-athletes the same meaningful experience that I've received."

Egan is a 2015 graduate of Williamsville South High School, and she is pursuing a degree in physical therapy at Daemen. On the hardwood, she's appeared in 65 games over the past three seasons. The 2017-18 season was her finest, averaging 5.4 points and 4.6 rebounds in 27 games.

Sofia is one of three Team IMPACT children to be drafted onto Daemen teams in the last four years. The Daemen men's basketball and men's soccer teams have also participated in the program. To learn more about Team IMPACT, visit goteamimpact.org
