Davis, Redband Named To NABC Honors Court

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College men's basketball student-athletes Giambattista Davis (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Jeff Redband (Batavia, N.Y.) have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, recognizing their academic achievements during the 2017-18 academic year. It marks the sixth straight year that Daemen has had at least one NABC Honors Court selection, and the first time since 2014 with multiple honorees.

Davis, who graduated in May after just three years of study, was a dual-major at Daemen, earning degrees in mathematics and liberal studies. Redband, who was academically classified as a junior during the 2017-18 academic year, is studying business administration. Both student-athletes met the high standard of academic criteria to be considered fo the NABC Honors Court which is awarded to junior and senior (academic) varsity players who hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. Honorees must have also matriculated at least one year at their current institution, and be a member of an NCAA Division I, II or III, or NAIA Division I or II program whose head coach is a member of the NABC.

"It's great to see Tista and Jeff recognized for their hard work and dedication to their academic careers," said Daemen head coach Mike MacDonald. "Both young men are true student-athletes and great representatives of Daemen College, on the court, in the classroom as well as in the Western New York community. We are proud they are Wildcats."

Davis has elected to forego his final year of basketball eligibility at Daemen to pursue graduate studies at the University at Buffalo. ?He appeared in 48 games over three seasons with the Wildcats, including a career-best 25 this past season.

Redband was a third team All-East Coast Conference selection this past season after averaging 11.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. In two seasons with the Wildcats, he has appeared in all 58 of the team's games while making 56 starts. He already ranks ninth in team history with 137 three-point field goals.

Previous NABC Honors Court selections from Daemen include Alex Borges (2016, 2017), Arif Mehmetaj (2015), Aaron Davis (2013, 2014) and Troy Nowak (2013, 2014).
