Douglas Named ECC Co-Rookie of the Week 9/5/2023 4:18:00 PM By: CONTACT: Tom McDermott, Director of Athletics Communications | tmcdermo@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. – Freshman Elijah Douglas (Clarence, N.Y.) of Daemen University has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week for games played August 28-Sept.3. The announcement of award winners was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon. He becomes the first Daemen men's soccer player to be selected ECC Rookie of the Week since Riccardo Boscolo Bachetto at the start of the 2022 season. The 6-foot-4 forward helped the Wildcats break even during a season-opening trip to Ohio this past weekend. He played 37 minutes off the bench during his collegiate debut against Walsh University Thursday night. He made his first collegiate start on Saturday afternoon at Malone and netted his first two career goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory. He also registered a team-high four shots in 67 minutes of action. Douglas is a 2023 graduate of Clarence High School and led the Red Devils to a 17-2-1 record, a Section VI championship and the quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Class AA Tournament as a senior last year. He was named fourth team all-state, All-Western New York and ECIC Section VI Class AA Player of the Year. Daemen is idle until Saturday, Sept. 9 when it travels to Burlington, Vermont to face Saint Michael's College in a non-conference game.
