AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore
Sam Rugg (Freeville, N.Y./Dryden) and seniors
Mark Fox (Dansville, N.Y./Monroe CC) and
Andrew Stapleton (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) from the Daemen College men's track and field team have earned First Team All-East Coast Conference honors as announced today in a news release.
All-Conference selections were made based on athletes' performances at last month's ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction.
Rugg earned the accolade in the long jump. His leap of 6.37 meters was a season-best as he finished second in the event at the ECC meet.
Fox, who was named the team's Most Valuable Athlete at last week's
Athletics Awards Banquet, earned the distinction for his performance in the shot put. He finished in second at the ECC meet with a toss of 13.90 meters.
Stapleton cleared 3.05 meters in the pole vault to finish in second place leading to his All-Conference selection.
Fox and Stapleton were also
First Team All-ECC honorees during the indoor track and field season.
Daemen's track and field teams became the College's first to participate in ECC events, doing so in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The remainder of Daemen's intercollegiate athletic teams will join the ECC in the 2013-14 academic year.
