AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman long distance runner
Jordan Weir (Cato, N.Y./Cato-Meridian) and junior thrower
Ashley Pinette (Rowley, Mass./Westfield State University) from the Daemen College women's track and field team have earned Second Team All-East Coast Conference honors as announced today in a news release.
All-Conference selections were made based on athletes' performances at last month's ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The top two finishers in each event were named First Team All-Conference, while the third and fourth place finishers earned Second Team All-Conference distinction.
Weir earned the honor for her showing in the 5,000 meter run. She had a third place finish in the event with a time of 19:00.16, shaving some 30 seconds off her only other 5,000-meter time of the outdoor season.
Her selection wraps up a fantastic rookie campaign. In five races during the outdoor season, she compiled four top-six finishes. She was also named
Second Team All-ECC during the indoor season for her performance in the 3,000 meter run and was the top-finisher for the women's cross country team in all seven of their races last fall.
Pinette, who was named the team's Most Valuable Athlete at last week's
Athletics Awards Banquet, finished in fourth place in the discus at the ECC meet leading to her All-Conference selection. Her toss of 34.91 meters was a season-best, topping her previous mark by more than three meters.
She accounted for 10 top-10 finishes throughout the outdoor season in the discus, shot put and hammer throws.
Daemen's track and field teams became the College's first to participate in ECC events, doing so in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The remainder of Daemen's intercollegiate athletic teams will join the ECC in the 2013-14 academic year.
