AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team saw three of its athletes earn first team all-conference honors as announced by the East Coast Conference today. Freshmen
Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) and
Alex Reid (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) as well as junior
Zac Ekdahl (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) were included amongst the honorees stemming from their respective performances at the ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held last Saturday, April 19 at the Track and Field Complex on the campus of Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. The top two finishers in each event were named first team All-ECC, while the third and fourth place finishers earned second team All-ECC distinction.
Jemmison set school and personal records by running the 400 meter dash in 51.14 seconds, placing him as the runner-up in the event behind George Erazo of St. Thomas Aquinas College.
Reid
had a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.40 meters) to account for his first team All-ECC honors. His leap in the long jump finals came up just one one-hundredth short of first place (Aaron McGinnis, Roberts Wesleyan College, 6.41 meters) and his preliminary-round leap of 6.71 meters was the longest of the competition for anyone. He had previously earned three first team All-ECC selections with his performances during the indoor season.A third runner-up finish for the Wildcats came for Ekdahl who did so in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.05, finishing behind race-winner Kurt Samuel of Queens College. Ekdahl was also the runner-up in the same event at the ECC Indoor Championships in February, earning first team all-conference for that performance as well.
In addition to their first team all-conference honors, Jemmison and Reid were double-honorees having each earned second team all-conference honors in additional events - Jemmison for the 200 meter dash and Reid for the triple jump.
Jemmison took fourth place with a time of 23.14 seconds, shaving .16 seconds off his preliminary-round time while Reid was a third-place finisher with leaps totaling 12.54 meters.
Another second team all-conference selection went to junior long distance runner Zach Eustance (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton). Eustance set school and personal records in the 5000 meter run, finishing in third place overall with a time of 15:57.92.
