AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College men's tennis player
Mark Veitengruber (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for matches played Mar. 9-15. The announcement was made from the conference office this afternoon via its
weekly men's tennis report.
Veitengruber ran his singles record to 8-5 this season after picking up three victories during Daemen's six-match trip to Florida last week. The eight singles victories leads the team so far this season.
Veitengruber defeated Lars Kristiansen of West Chester University (6-2, 7-6) last Monday (Mar. 9), and Dan Boate of Washington College (7-6, 5-7, 1-0) on Wednesday (Mar. 11). Those wins came in the No. 2 singles position, and were sandwiched around his straight-sets, No. 1 singles victory on Tuesday (Mar. 10) over C.J. Lloyd of University of Northwestern (Minn.) (6-4, 6-2).
Today's announcement marks the second time this season that Veitengruber has earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors. He was previously recognized with this accolade for
matches played Feb. 16-22.
Veitengruber and the Wildcats (5-8 overall) open ECC play this week when they host University of the District of Columbia this Saturday, Mar 21 at Miller Tennis Center.
