AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College women's track and field athletes
Toria Williams (Buffalo, N.Y./Medaille College) and
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) were each named First Team All-East Coast Conference by virtue of their performances at last week's ECC Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Rochester, N.Y. The ECC announced its All-Conference teams today based on the results from the championship meet with first and second place finishers earning First Team All-ECC honors, and third and fourth place finishers picking up Second Team All-ECC accolades.
Williams, a 5-foot-11 sophomore thrower, earned her second-straight ECC outdoor title in the shot put last week, and thus, her second-straight First Team All-ECC selection. Williams posted a toss of 11.89 meters to outdistance the second-place effort of her fellow First Team All-Conference honoree, Tatyana Calhoun (11.46 meters) of the University of the District of Columbia. Williams was also a First Team All-ECC performer during the indoor portion of the track and field schedule this season, finishing as the runner-up at the indoor conference championship meet last February.
In addition to her exploits in the shot put, Williams added a Second Team All-Conference performance in the discus, finishing fourth with a throw of 27.85 meters.
Donahue, a 5-foot-4 sophomore, picked up First Team All-Conference honors in the 5,000-meter run after coming in as the race runner-up with a time of 18:37.45. It's just another award to add to the mantle for Donahue who earned First Team All-ECC honors during the indoor season for her performance in the 3,000-meter run, while also gaining Second Team All-League accolades last fall for her performance in the ECC Cross Country Championships.
Donahue was also awarded First Team All-Conference status as a member of the Wildcats' ECC-title winning 4 X 800-meter relay team. Donahue teamed with classmates
Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and
Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), and redshirt freshman
Lindsey Wood (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) to win the race with a time of 1:03.79, securing the group's All-Conference designation.
Rice rounded out the Wildcats' All-Conference performances, finishing third in the 800-meter run. Rice completed her trek around the track in 2:24.21 and adds to her growing list of ECC accolades which includes a First Team All-Conference performance in the same event from February's indoor conference championship, as well as a Second Team All-Conference performance from last fall's ECC Cross Country Championships.
Daemen will officially close its 2015 outdoor season at the Brockport Outdoor Invitational tomorrow (Saturday, April 25).
