For Communications Redband Earns ECC Rookie Of The Week Honors Once More Redshirt-Freshman Has Now Earned The Weekly Accolade In Two Straight Weeks, Three Times Overall This Season AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College men's basketball player Jeff Redband (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for games played from January 16-22. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly men's basketball report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y. Redband, a 6-foot-7 redshirt-freshman forward, averaged 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two contests last week, while also shooting 70 percent from three-point range (7-for-10). Redband's efforts helped Daemen to league wins over Roberts Wesleyan College (88-85 on Jan. 18) and University of the District of Columbia (97-77 on Jan. 21), moving the Wildcats to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in ECC play this season. Daemen has now won seven of their last nine games overall, and six of their last seven league contests, dating back to mid-December. Both of last week's wins came at the friendly confines of Lumsden Gymnasium where Daemen is 10-1 this season, 30-5 all-time in ECC contests (since joining the league in 2013-14) and 66-9 since the start of the 2011-12 season. Redband opened the week by knocking down a pair of three-pointers and totaling six points in the win over RWC - Daemen's 11th straight in the all-time series with their long-time rivals from Rochester. He added four rebounds while playing just 17 minutes due to foul trouble. Later in the week, Redband connected on 7-of-10 shots from the field, including a blistering 5-of-6 from three-point range, and totaled 19 points to go with five boards, two assists and a blocked shot in the win over UDC which had entered the contest in a tie with St. Thomas Aquinas College atop the league standings. Redband's shooting helped Daemen establish new season-highs for points and field goal percentage (63.6) as the Wildcats became the only ECC team with wins over UDC and STAC this season. The scoring production marked his ninth double-figure game of the season, and was one shy of his career-high which he set in a 90-79 victory at Edinboro University on Nov. 23. For the season, Redband has started all 18 contests thus far, and is producing 11.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game with a team-high 15 blocked shots. His 51 three-point baskets leads the team and ranks second among the ECC leaders. Redband is shooting 47.1 percent from the field (73-for-155) and 46.8 percent from behind the arc (51-for-109), and he leads all ECC freshmen in scoring. The announcement today marked the second straight week and the third time this season that Redband has earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors, giving him more selections than any other player in the league. He previously earned the accolade for games played November 21-27 when he averaged 13.7 points over three contests, helping Daemen to a 2-1 record, and again last week (January 9-15) when he produced 10.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game during a 1-1 week for the Wildcats. The Wildcats led the league in Rookie of the Week selections last season with six. Guard Jay Sarkis (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena), who is out for the entire 2016-17 season with an injury, was a four-time recipient, and Deion Hamilton (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) earned the honor twice. Redband and the Wildcats continue ECC play on Wednesday when they conclude a three-game home stand by hosting Long Island University Post. The Wildcats are looking to avenge a 73-70 overtime loss to the Pioneers from earlier this season. Tip-off Wednesday is slated for 6 p.m. For breaking news and continuing coverage of the Daemen men's basketball team, follow @DaemenAthletics and @DaemenMBB on Twitter.Print Friendly Version Players Mentioned #25 Deion Hamilton G/F 6' 4" Redshirt Sophomore #44 Jeff Redband F 6' 7" Redshirt Freshman #5 Jay Sarkis G 6' 1" Sophomore Players Mentioned #25 Deion Hamilton 6' 4" Redshirt Sophomore G/F #44 Jeff Redband 6' 7" Redshirt Freshman F #5 Jay Sarkis 6' 1" Sophomore G
