Sischo Earns ECC Rookie of the Week Honors For Second Time

AMHERST, N.Y. - For the second time this season, Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week. The official announcement of ECC accolades for games played December 11-17 was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Sischo shot over 70 percent from the field (16-for-22) while averaging 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in two games last week, helping Daemen (5-5, 1-2 ECC) to a split of road games against Mercy College (win, 86-82) and nationally-ranked University of Bridgeport (loss, 84-72). 

In the four-point win over Mercy last Friday, December 15, Sischo erupted for a career-high 27 points and grabbed a team-best seven boards. The 6-foot-9 redshirt freshman center was nearly unstoppable in the paint as he connected on 12-of-14 field goal attempts in the game, including a couple of highlight-reel dunks. It marked Sischo's second 20-point outing of the season, and his production came in just 20 minutes of action.

On Sunday, December 17 against Bridgeport, the No. 19 ranked team in last week's D2SIDA national poll, Sischo totaled 10 points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes. He shot 4-for-8 from the field and added a block and a steal to his stat line, helping Daemen lead by three with under four minutes to play before the Purple Knights embarked on a game-closing 16-2 run. 

Sischo has now scored in double figures in six of Daemen's 10 games this season, and is averaging 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He has come off the bench in each contest and is averaging 14.7 minutes per game. Connecting on 47-of-87 field goal attempts (54.0 percent), Sischo presently ranks sixth among the ECC leaders in field goal percentage. He also leads the league in points per 40 minutes (31.0), and ranks second among all ECC freshmen in scoring average (Tyrese Crosdale, Queens College, 12.4 ppg).

Sischo had previously earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors for games played November 20-26. Since the start of the 2015-16 season, Daemen players have earned 12 of the 36 Rookie of the Week selections named by the conference. 

Sischo and the Wildcats are back in action Saturday, December 30 with a non-league road game vs. St. Michael's College.
