Spring Semester Schedule Set For Women's Bowling

AMHERST, N.Y. - An increased focus on tournament play highlights the Daemen College women's bowling team's spring semester schedule which was announced today by second-year head coach David Zajac. In addition to three head-to-head dual matches, the Wildcats will partake in four tournaments, including the East Coast Conference Championships which are slated for March 23-25 in Port Jefferson, N.Y.

"While our primary focus right now is finishing up our fall season this weekend, we cannot help but be excited and anxious for our spring schedule," said Zajac. "The four tournament events in our spring semester season will truly challenge this young team. With six first-year student-athletes on our roster, we chose to bring the team along slowly this fall. Our veteran players did a great job of helping acclimate the freshmen to the life of a Division II college athlete, and most importantly, we collectively have a very positive outlook going forward about the remainder of our season."

Daemen, which wraps up the fall season by hosting St. Vincent College for a three-match affair this Saturday, December 9 at Kenmore Lanes, has gotten off to the best start in team history with a 15-4 overall record, just one win shy of the program record for wins in a season set during last year's 16-25 campaign.

The spring semester schedule opens Tuesday, January 30 with Daemen visiting Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pa. A first-year varsity program, Penn State Behrend has posted an 0-6 record so far in their inaugural season.

Daemen's budding rivalry with Medaille College resumes with the Mavericks visiting Kenmore Lanes on Tuesday, February 6. The Wildcats and Mavericks have met 16 times over the last three seasons. Medaille emerged victorious in two meetings earlier this year at the Medaille Invitational on November 4-5, and the Mavericks are 34-13 so far this season.

From there, the schedule shifts to tournament play, beginning with the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament hosted by St. Vincent on Sunday, February 18. The following weekend has Daemen competing in the Molloy College Lion Invitational (Saturday, February 24) and the Molloy College Baker Challenge (Sunday, February 25). Exact opponents and details for each tournament will be announced at a later date, but it's anticipated that each tournament will provide opponents that Daemen has not seen so far this season. The Wildcats will play approximately 15 matches between the three tournaments.

The Wildcats briefly return to dual-match play by hosting Penn State Behrend on Tuesday, February 27. It'll be the Wildcats' final home event of the 2017-18 season.

The Wildcats begin the hunt for a conference championship on Friday, March 23. Daemen was picked ninth in the ECC preseason poll released earlier this fall. The 10-team East Coast Conference Championship tournament runs through Sunday, March 25 at Port Jeff Bowl. The ECC is one of only eight conference to sponsor women's volleyball as a varsity sport, and one of only two that is comprised fully of NCAA Division II teams.
