Roginson Headlines Daemen's All-Conference Performers

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College long distance runner Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) has been named to the All-East Coast Conference first team in the 5,000-meter run, headlining a trio of all-conference selections for the Wildcats' men's indoor track and field team.  The all-conference teams were decided based on individual performances at the ECC Championship meet last month, and they were announced in a press release from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.

Roginson, a 5-foot-10 junior, was the lone Daemen athlete to earn a first-place finish at the conference championship meet which was held on Feb. 24 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.  There, Roginson topped the field and set a new meet record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:45.21, breaking the previous mark (15:46.78) set by Enock Bor of Roberts Wesleyan three seasons ago.  It was Roginson's first competition since the Boston University Season Opener meet on Dec. 3 where he set the 5,000-meter school record with a time of 14:57.20.  He has already been named an All-Region performer in the 5,000-meter run this season as well.

In addition, Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation) and Matt VanDeMortel (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) earned second-team All-ECC honors.  Jemmison finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18 seconds.  He holds four school records, including the 60-meter dash benchmark (7.12 seconds) which he set at the 2016 conference championship meet.  VanDeMortel, who eclipsed school records a total of four times individually in three different events this season, earned a fourth-place finish at the ECC meet in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.59.

The trio of all-conference honorees helped Daemen to a sixth-place finish in the ECC team standings.
