ECC Announces Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-League Teams

Donahue, Kress Headline Daemen's Honorees

AMHERST, N.Y. - Long distance specialist Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and pole vaulter Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) of the Daemen College women's track and field have been named First Team All-East Coast Conference honorees for the 2017 outdoor season.  The ECC announced its all-league teams in a press release from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y. yesterday afternoon.

In addition to the First Team performers, long distance runner Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst), sprinter Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), hurdler Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and pole vaulter Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) were named Second Team All-ECC honorees.  The ECC names its all-league teams based on individual performances at the ECC Championship meet which took place on April 22 at Clarkstown South High School in West Nyack, N.Y.  The top two finishers in each event are named First Team All-ECC honorees, while the third and fourth place finishers earn Second Team All-ECC accolades.

Another day, another accolade for Donahue who earned First Team All-ECC honors for her first-place finishes in the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs.  Donahue posted an ECC Championship meet record time of 38:31.11 in the longer of the two events.  Her 5,000-meter time was 17:15.80.  The all-league honors today mark Donahue's fifth and sixth during her outdoor track career for the Wildcats.  She previously earned First Team All-ECC honors in 2015 for the 5,000-meter run as well as for being part of the winning 4x800-meter relay team; previous Second-Team All-ECC performances in her career came in the 1,500-meter run in 2016 and the 5,000-meter run in 2014.  Already named an All-Region honoree this season in both the 10,000 and 5,000-meter runs, Donahue went on to place ninth in the 10,000-meter race at the NCAA Division II National Championship meet last evening.

Kress, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, won the conference's pole vault competition for the second-straight year to pick up the second First Team All-ECC honor of her outdoor track career.  She cleared 2.90 meters on her first attempt to win the competition, besting her performance from the 2016 conference championship meet when she won by clearing 2.75 meters.

Trabert, a 5-foot-3 junior, headlines the Wildcats' Second Team All-ECC performers.  She picked up the honor in both the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs, finishing third and fourth in those events, respectively.  It's the second-straight season that Trabert has earned All-ECC honors; she was a First Team All-ECC performer after winning the 10,000-meter run in 2016.

Cycon and Carro wrap up their sophomore campaigns with Second Team All-ECC honors.  Cycon posted a time of 12.73 seconds in her 100-meter dash preliminary heat, ranking as the fastest time at the meet heading into the race finals.  In the finals, she crossed the finish line in 12.74 seconds to finish fourth.  Carro also finished fourth, posting a time of 15.82 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.

Rounding out the team's all-league performers is Haude, a 5-foot-7 freshman.  She finished third in the pole vault during her rookie appearance at the conference championship meet, clearing 2.90 meters on her third attempt.
