White Named ECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - Freshman goalkeeper Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for games played September 11-17. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

White continued her solid rookie season with nine saves in Daemen's 2-1 (OT) victory Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas College. The win came in the Wildcats' East Coast Conference season opener marking the first time that Daemen has gotten off to a 1-0 start since joining the league back in 2013. It also was Daemen's third-straight win overall, moving the Wildcats to 3-1-1 on the season. White has posted a personal record of 3-0-1 between the pipes thus far.

White's Rookie of the Week selection is her second accolade in as many weeks. She was the ECC Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 4-10 after recording 16 total saves in wins over Lake Erie College (2-1 [OT] on Sept. 8) and Tiffin University (2-0 on Sept. 10). The win over Tiffin marked White's first career shutout and the 11 saves she made that day were the most for a Daemen goalkeeper in a shutout since Kathryn Haessner made nine stops in a 2-0 win over University of Maine-Fort Kent on Sept. 7, 2013.

For the season, White ranks in the top three among the ECC leaders in total goals against (3), goals-against average (0.62), total saves (36) and save percentage (.923). Her efforts through the team's first five games have helped Daemen rank third in the league as a team in fewest goals allowed (5) and goals-against average (0.93).

White is just the fourth Daemen player to garner ECC Rookie of the Week honors, joining the afore-mentioned Haessner (Sept. 2-8, 2013) and teammates Meaghan O'Leary (Oct. 5-12, 2015) and Jamie Boyar (Sept. 12-18, 2016)

White and the Wildcats are back in action with a non-conference road game Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Clarion University.
