AMHERST, N.Y. - Tim Georg (Aschaffenburg, Germany) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week for matches played April 2-8. The official announcement of ECC accolades was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Georg, a 6-foot freshman, went undefeated (2-0) in singles play last week while helping Daemen to a 1-1 record in the team's two dual matches, both of which coming against ECC opponents. The Wildcats knocked off rival Roberts Wesleyan College 7-2 last Tuesday, April 3. It not only marked Daemen's first-ever win in the all-time series with the Redhakws, but it snapped a six-match slide overall, and a 13-match ECC skid which dated back to the 2014-15 season. A 7-2 loss to New York Institute of Technology, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region poll, followed on Saturday, April 7.

In the dual-match win over RWC, Georg grinded out a three-set victory (3-6, 7-6, 10-6) over sophomore Dennis Barlotta (Holmdel, N.J.) in the No. 3 singles position. The point there gave Daemen a 3-1 lead in the match en route to their signature win of the season.

Against NYIT, Georg was again placed in the No. 3 singles position, a placement that matched him up with ECC Preseason Player of the Year Rares Ispas (Focsani, Romania). Georg emerged victorious, again grinding out the point after dropping the opening set (6-7, 6-4, 1-0).

Georg, who got his collegiate career off to a fast start by winning his singles draw at the season-opening Daemen Invitational Tournament last September, is now 8-16 in singles play this season. His eight singles victories ranks fourth on the team.

Today's announcement marks the first weekly honor of Georg's collegiate career, and the first for a Daemen player since his countryman, Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany), was named the ECC Rookie of the Week for February 27-March 5, 2017. Wilde, now a sophomore, was named to the ECC's weekly honor roll after he also posted a 2-0 record in singles play last week, results that made him just the fourth player in team history to reach 12 singles wins in a season.

Daemen concludes the 2017-18 regular season with three contests in as many days later this week. The Wildcats host the University of the District of Columbia in their ECC finale on Friday, April 13; a win in that match will clinch the team's first-ever ECC Tournament berth. The Wildcats then visit Millersville University (Saturday, April 14) and Jefferson University (Sunday, April 15) for a pair of non-conference matches.
