Sischo Triples Up On ECC Rookie of the Week Honors

AMHERST, N.Y. - For the third time this season, Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week. The official announcement of ECC accolades for games played December 18-31 was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Sischo shot over 75 percent from the field (19-for-25) while averaging 22.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games last week, helping Daemen (6-6, 1-2 ECC) to a split of non-conference road games against St. Michael's College (lost, 83-82) and regionally-ranked College of St. Rose (won, 68-60).

In the one-point loss to St. Michael's last Saturday, December 30, Sischo was unstoppable at the offensive end as he shot 11-for-12 from the field while registering the first double-double of his career (23 points, career-high 11 rebounds). More than half of Sischo's production (13 points, seven rebounds) came during the second half when Daemen rallied from a 27-point halftime deficit to have three possessions in the final 90 seconds with a chance to take the lead. 

On Sunday, December 31 against St. Rose, the No. 9 ranked team in last week's D2SIDA East Region poll, Sischo made the first start of his career and scored a game-high 22 points to go with seven rebounds. He shot 8-for-13 from the field and 6-for-9 at the charity stripe while leading Daemen to a win that snapped St. Rose's 14-game home winning streak. 

Over the last four games, Sischo is averaging 20.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 74.5 percent from the field. For the season, Sischo has reached double- figure scoring in eight of Daemen's 12 games, and he's averaging 13.3 points and a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game. Connecting on 66-of-112 field goal attempts (58.9 percent), Sischo presently ranks second among the ECC leaders in field goal percentage. He also leads the league in points per 40 minutes (31.8), and is first among all ECC freshmen in scoring average. 

Sischo had previously earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors for games played November 20-26 and December 11-17. Since the start of the 2015-16 season, Daemen players have earned 13 of the 37 Rookie of the Week selections named by the conference. 

Sischo and the Wildcats are back in action with two more road games this week: Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Salem University and Saturday, Jan. 6 at Roberts Wesleyan College.
