AMHERST, N.Y. - Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The official announcement of ECC accolades for games played December 18-31 was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Saba, a 6-foot senior guard, posted some gaudy numbers, averaging 25.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.5 steals in two games last week while helping Daemen (4-9, 1-2 ECC) to a split of non-conference road games against St. Anselm College (lost, 69-56) and St. Michael's College (won, 69-56).

In the loss to St. Anselm last Friday, December 29, Saba logged the full 40 minutes for the fourth time in her career while totaling 28 points (two shy of her career-high), nine rebounds and two blocks. Saba shot 9-for-27 from the field and connected on a season-high three three-pointers.

On Saturday, December 30 against St. Michael's, Saba shot 7-for-20 from the floor and 2-for-4 from three-point range while registering her fourth double-double of the season (20th of her career) with 22 points and 11 boards. She also added four blocks and two steals.

Saba has now scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games, and she's averaging a league-best 17.9 points per game. She leads the team in field goals made (83) and attempted (204), free throws made (51) and attempted (73), blocks (16), steals (19) and minutes (406).

For her career, Saba has scored 1,490 points in 94 games, placing her just four points shy of sixth place on Daemen's all-time scoring list. She also ranks among Daemen's all-time leaders in field goals made (524 - seventh), field goals attempted (1,302 - sixth), free throws made (353 - fifth), free throws attempted (518 - sixth) and blocked shots (135 - eighth).

This is the third time in Saba's career that she has earned ECC Player of the Week honors. She had previously earned the honor for December 12-19, 2016 and February 1-7, 2016. Saba, who has earned first-team All-ECC honors in each of the last two seasons, was also a six-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree during the 2014-15 season.

Saba and the Wildcats are back in action this Saturday, Jan. 6 at Roberts Wesleyan College.
