Sischo Again Named ECC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

AMHERST, N.Y. - For the fourth time this season, Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week. The official announcement of ECC accolades for games played January 1-7 was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Sischo led Daemen to road wins over Salem University (77-69) and Roberts Wesleyan College (98-73) as the Wildcats improved to 8-6 on the season. The 6-foot-9 redshirt freshman center averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 53.8 percent from the floor in the two games.

In the eight-point non-conference win over Salem last Wednesday, January 3, Sischo recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 boards, and he added career-highs of three assists and three steals. 

Against Roberts Wesleyan on January 6, Sischo shot 9-for-14 from the field and shared game-high honors with 18 points in just 21 minutes of action. His efforts were integral to Daemen's 13th consecutive win in the all-time series. 

Sischo had previously earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors for games played November 20-26, December 11-17 and December 18-31. He's really come on lately, averaging 18.8 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 67.1 percent from the field over the last six games. For the season, Sischo has reached double-figure scoring in 10 of Daemen's 14 games, and he's averaging 13.6 points and a team-best 6.4 rebounds per game. Connecting on 80-of-138 field goal attempts (58.0%), Sischo presently ranks third among the ECC leaders in field goal percentage. He also leads the league in points per 40 minutes (30.9), and is first among all ECC freshmen in scoring average. 

Sischo's four Rookie of the Week selections this season match teammates Jeff Redband (Batavia, N.Y.) and Jay Sarkis (Rochester, N.Y.) who were each awarded four times during their respective rookie seasons. No other ECC team has more than one Rookie of the Week selection this season, and since the start of the 2015-16 campaign, Daemen players have earned 14 of the 38 Rookie of the Week selections named by the conference. 

Sischo and the Wildcats are back in action with this Wednesday, January 10 with the first of three straight home games as the University of the District of Columbia comes to Lumsden Gymnasium for a conference game with tip-off slated for 12 p.m.
