Sischo Named ECC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week For Fifth Time

AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played January 15-21. It marks the fifth time this season that Sischo has earned the award. The official announcement of the ECC's weekly accolades was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Sischo averaged 18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while leading Daemen to road wins over Molloy College (82-74) and Queens College (81-70) last week. Sischo canned 17 of his 26 shot attempts (65.4%) and the victories extended Daemen's winning streak to eight straight games, tied for the longest active streak among all NCAA Division II East Region teams. 

In the eight-point win over Molloy last Friday, January 19, shot 9-for-13 from the field and totaled 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. He followed that up by posting his fourth double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) of the season in the 11-point win at Queens. 

Sischo has posted 11 straight double-figure scoring games, averaging 17.5 points on 60.2 percent field-goal shooting (85-for-141) in that span. For the season, he is averaging 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He leads all ECC freshmen in scoring average, and ranks among the overall conference leaders in scoring (ninth), rebounding (fourth), made field goals (116 - fourth) and field goal percentage (56.3 - fourth). 

Sischo had previously earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors for games played November 20-26, December 11-17, December 18-31 and January 1-7. His five Rookie of the Week selections this season are the most for a Daemen player since joining the league for the 2013-14 season. No other ECC team has more than one Rookie of the Week selection this season, and since the start of the 2015-16 campaign, Daemen players have earned 15 of the 40 Rookie of the Week selections named by the conference. 

Sischo and the Wildcats, ranked ninth in the latest D2SIDA East Region media poll, are back in action this Friday, January 26 with the first of two straight home games as the Mercy College comes to Lumsden Gymnasium for a conference game with tip-off slated for 8 p.m.
