Daemen University graduate student Joey Atkins was named Male Athlete of the Month for November after kicking off his graduate season by being named East Coast Conference Preseason Player of the Year, as released by the conference prior to the season. Throughout six weeks of competition so far this season, Atkins has also picked up three ECC Defensive Player of the Week awards.
 
The 6-foot-5 forward has helped the Wildcats to a 7-3 record while averaging 12.3 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high 23 points against Western Washington in the season-opening D2CCA Canadian Tip-Off Classic in Vancouver, B.C., and pulled down a season-high 13 boards at Dominican. He helped the Wildcats to a 64-63 win over nationally ranked Mercyhurst on Nov. 15 where he played 29 minutes and totaled nine points, six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. Atkins has posted double-digit points in six of Daemen’s 10 games on the year. He has also helped the Wildcats to a seventh-place regional ranking in the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) East Region Basketball Media Poll for 2023-2024.
