AMHERST, N.Y. - Men's basketball player Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y./San Jacinto College) and women's basketball player Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) have been named the Bedore Tours Student-Athletes of the Month for January, 2015.

Dyck, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward, has been nothing short of spectacular in his first season for the Wildcats.  In 11 outings last month, Dyck led Daemen to an 8-3 record after averaging 22.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  For the month, Dyck connected on 52-percent of his field goal attempts (90-for-173) while also canning two-thirds of his shots from the charity stripe (57-for-85).

Dyck put up eight 20-point games in January, including a string of four-straight which he carries into February.  He opened the month with a 30-point effort, the first of his career, in Daemen's 95-72 blitz of University of the District of Columbia on Jan. 3.  He would later add a career-high 35 points in a road conference loss at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Jan. 16.  Later in the month, Dyck contributed the first double-doubles of his career (23 points, career-high 12 rebounds vs. Long Island University Post on Jan. 23; 29 points, 10 rebounds vs. Queens on Jan. 31).

For the season, Dyck leads the team and ranks third in the East Coast Conference in scoring at 20.3 points per game.  Dyck and the Wildcats hit February with a 14-6 overall record and a 9-3 mark in ECC play.

Saba, a 6-foot freshman guard, helped Daemen to a 5-6 record last month after averaging 13.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  Saba recorded her first career double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) in a 72-60 loss to ECC front-runner University of the District of Columbia to open the month on Jan. 3.  She would later contribute 12.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 42-percent from the field (13-for-31) and 80-percent from three-point range (4-for-5) in Daemen's three-game winning streak that included victories over Washington Adventist University (63-47), Dowling College (67-59) and University of Bridgeport (75-65).  That stretch included Saba's second double-double of the season (14 points, 11 rebounds vs. Dowling).

Saba went on to match her career-high for points (21) twice in the final four games of the month, doing so against Long Island University Post and Molloy College.  She was twice named the ECC Rookie of the Week last month as well.

For the season, Saba is averaging 13.1 points per game on 36-percent shooting from the field and 36-percent shooting from three-point range.  She's adding 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for a Wildcat team that enters February with an overall record of 8-10, and a conference mark of 5-7, equaling the team's win totals from all of last season with eight games remaining this month.
