AMHERST, N.Y. – Track and Field standout Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) and triathlete Anna Lyons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) have been named the Daemen College Student-Athletes of the Month presented by Western New York Knee and Orthopedic Surgery PC for May, 2016.
Rushok, a senior long distance runner, posted a time of 32:55.47 in the 10,000-meter run at the Cardinal Last Chance Meet on May 14, the Wildcats' lone competition of the month and Rushok's career finale. Rushok's time established a new school record in the event, eclipsing the previous mark of 33:41.71 set by Brett Smith at the University of Rochester Alumni Invitational on April 14, 2012.
The effort capped a solid senior year for Rushok who earned first-team All-ECC honors in the 10,000 meters after claiming the individual title in the event at April's East Coast Conference Championship meet. He was also a first-team All-ECC performer in the 5,000-meter run during the indoor track and field season, and garnered second-team All-ECC honors as a member of Daemen's cross country squad last fall after finishing eighth at the league championship meet.
Lyons, a graduate student and member of Daemen's inaugural triathlon team, rounded out the 2015-16 season in impressive fashion at the Fly By Night Duathlon on May 7 which featured a series of three 1.7-mile runs and two 10.2-mile bike rides. Lyons finished fourth out of 47 total female entrants with a time of 1:45.58 which also placed her first in the female 20-24 age group.
Lyons' effort marked the third time this year that she had visited the medal stand, doing so previously at the Finger Lakes Triathlon and the HITS Triathlon Series-Ocala events.
