Box Score AMHERST, NY - Junior forward
Lia Zahn (Canadaigua, NY/Canandaigua HS) came off the bench to score a career-high 16 points, scorching the net on 8-for-10 shooting to lead the Daemen Wildcats (10-1, 2-0 AMC) to an 85-29 victory over the visiting Fisher Falcons (0-15, 0-7 AMC) on day one of the Daemen College Holiday Classic. In the other women's game today, Roberts Wesleyan scored a 77-60 victory over Laurentian.
While Zahn came out firing from the outside, her teammates went to work in the paint as Daemen netted a staggering 56 points in close to the basket. The Wildcats also hammered the under-manned Falcons 49-21 on the glass.
After some initial back-and-forth play to start the game, Daemen seized control halfway through the first, opening up a 43-17 lead at the half. Fisher, who dressed just six players, found the second half treated them even worse as they managed just 12 points on 18% shooting (5-for-28) in the period.
Not to be out-done was junior
Chelsea Andorka (Canton, OH/Central Catholic HS) who led the Wildcats with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Andorka also notched five assists in the win.
Freshman
Jordyn Broas (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East HS) chipped in with 11 points off the bench while starters
Monica Kosior (Grimsby, ON/Holy Trinity SS) and
Ellie Allen (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home HS) split 16.
The Wildcats were led on the backboard by freshman
Jillian Fitzner (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata Acad.) who grabbed nine while
Samantha Stanfield (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison HS) and
Courtney Donovan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island HS) snatched seven caroms apiece.
Playing in her first game of the season, sophomore point guard
Lindsay Stoddard (Limestone, NY/Allegheny-Limestone HS) dished out a game-high eight assists.
The Daemen Holiday Classic continues tomorrow. Fisher will face Roberts Wesleyan in the day's opening game at 12pm. Daemen will face Laurentian at 4pm.
