Wildcats Lose To NAIA I #20 Georgetown In Game 2 At New Orleans

Box Score NEW ORLEANS, LA - Daemen lost their second straight game to a ranked opponent at the Big Easy Challenge.  The 23rd ranked Wildcats fell to NAIA I #20 Georgetown, 70-59.

The Wildcats once again had a rough start and had trouble scoring during the first half.  Daemen managed only nine points in the first 9:30 and trailed 19-9.  They trailed 39-26 at the half.

Georgetown scored the first two baskets of the second half to take their largest lead of the game (43-26).  But Daemen battled back with a 14-2 run which ended with two three-pointers by Courtney Donovan to cut the lead to five (45-40) with 13:34 left to play.

Georgetown put the lead back up to 13 (56-43) with 8:00 left.  Monica Kosior hit back-to-back baskets underneath to bring Daemen back within nine but had turnovers on their next two possessions leading to two Georgetown baskets.  The Wildcats never got within 10 the rest of the way.

Courtney Donovan led Daemen with 14 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.  Also in double figures were Ellie Allen (15 points), Monica Kosior (11 points, 7 rebounds), and Chelsea Andorka (11 points, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals).

Georgetown (11-3) had four players in double figures led by Gina Beining (14 points, 6 rebounds) and Andrea Howard (13 points, 11 rebounds).

For the game, Daemen (36.8%) outshot Georgetown (35.9%) from the field and outscored them from three-point range (9-0), but were outscored 24-6 from the free throw line.

Daemen falls to 11-3 overall.  They will play at NAIA I #6 Shawnee State on January 4th.
