Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA - The Daemen Wildcats (20-6, 10-2 AMC) held the host Carlow Celtics to just nine points in the first half en route to a 54-33 victory, securing the program's tenth consecutive season of 20 or more wins. With the win, Daemen remains a half game behind Point Park (19-5, 10-1 AMC) for the lead in the American Mideast Conference standings heading into the final week of the regular season.
"We've been pretty good defensively all year and today was no different," said head coach Dave Skolen. "We're still in a position to win the conference championship which is where we want to be at this time of year."
Daemen opened the game by holding the Celtics to a paltry 3-for-25 (12%) shooting performance in the game's opening half. The dismal shooting by Carlow allowed Daemen to open up a 27-9 lead at the break.
Junior
Chelsea Andorka led the way for Daemen with 20 points. Andorka converted nine of her 14 field goal attempts while also hauling in a team-best eight rebounds, helping Daemen to a 47-40 edge on the backboard. Fellow junior
Monica Kosior added 14 points and seven boards.
Anjelica Pantojas was lone double figure scorer with 11 for Carlow who committed 21 turnovers in the contest.
Daemen is back on the home hardwood this Tuesday when they host Houghton at 5:30. A win Tuesday would set up a marquee matchup vs. Point Park on Saturday, the last day of the regular season.
