THE MATCHUP: The Daemen College women's basketball team hosts rival Roberts Wesleyan College in an East Coast Conference game Tuesday (Jan. 28) at 6 p.m.
MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION GAME: All proceeds from ticket sales and a 50-50 raffle on Tuesday will be donated to Make-A-Wish…the event is sponsored by Daemen's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which conducts several community service projects throughout the year…since 2003, NCAA Division II has been a national sponsor of Make-A-Wish, raising over $2.4 million to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions…student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and fans are serving their communities and wish kids through their heartfelt fundraising efforts…together they have helped to grant more than 338 wishes.
THE COACHES: David Skolen is entering his 22nd season as head women's basketball coach at Daemen and has posted a 442-230 (.658) record during his time with the Wildcats…he has guided the Wildcats to 11-straight 20-win seasons (15 overall), six conference championships, nine appearances in the NAIA Division II National Tournament and one appearance in the USCAA National Tournament…last winter Skolen led the Wildcats to a 26-7 record and a USCAA Division I National Championship…Bob Segave is in his eighth season as head women's basketball coach at Roberts Wesleyan…he entered the 2013-14 season with a career record of 119-87 (.578), including a trip to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship game in 2011 and NCCAA Final Four in 2008.
THE HISTORY: Tuesday's game will mark the 55th all-time meeting between the two former American Mideast Conference (AMC) rivals…Daemen has prevailed in 12 of the last 16 meetings and owns a 38-16 advantage in the all-time series…the teams met earlier this year at RWC and the Redhawks posted a 79-69 victory…it marked the first-ever ECC game for Daemen…sophomore Samantha Courtney led the way with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks…Natalie Galus drilled four three-pointers and totaled 16 points and nine rebounds for Daemen…Lindsay Stoddard stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals…the teams met once last season and Daemen posted a 77-66 win at RWC…Monica Kosior connected on 12-of-15 field goals and totaled 26 points for the Wildcats, while Chelsea Andorka added 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists…Samantha Courtney and Brittany Williams both scored 13 points for RWC…the teams met three times during the 2011-12 season…they split their two regular-season meetings, before Daemen posted a 49-41 victory in the AMC Tournament semifinals at Lumsden Gymnasium.
NCAA DIVISION II: Daemen is in Candidacy Year Two of the NCAA Division II membership process...Daemen has been accepted as a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC) and will play full regular-season conference schedules beginning this fall...the College will also maintain its affiliation with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) for postseason opportunities, as it will not be eligible for the ECC or NCAA postseason during Candidacy Year Two.
THE WILDCATS: Daemen returns just one starter and six players from last year's team that posted a 26-7 record and claimed the USCAA Division I National championship...the Wildcats were voted 10th in the ECC preseason poll…graduation took its toll in the form of 66-percent of the offense from last year…Daemen snapped a three-game losing streak following a non-league win at Dominican (83-64) on Jan. 7 and is 3-3 over its last six games…the Wildcats are coming off home wins over STAC (88-78) and Mercy (73-66) this past weekend…ECC losses have come against Roberts Wesleyan (79-69), LIU Post (75-56), New York Tech (79-62), Queens (95-86 OT), STAC (72-54), Mercy (93-91), UDC (74-63), Dowling (68-44) and Bridgeport (73-59)…ECC wins have come over Molloy (88-86 OT), STAC (88-78) and Mercy (73-66)…senior guard Lindsay Stoddard is the only returning starter on a roster that includes six freshmen and four sophomores…Stoddard was named ECC Co-Player of the Week earlier this year and has recorded a double-double in seven of her last 10 games…she nearly recorded her second triple-double of the season against STAC (15 pts, 13 rebs, 9 asts) and totaled 11 points, 13 rebounds and six helpers in the win over Mercy…she is averaging 13.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.6 steals…sophomore Raeann Stilwell has shot 38-percent (43-for-114) from three-point land and has averaged 22.0 points over the past 10 games…she went 9-of-19 from three-point land and totaled 47 points in the two wins this past weekend and is averaging 17.7 points with a league-high 55 three-pointers…sophomore Somara Colon is averaging 14 minutes, 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds off the bench and contributed a career-high 11 points in the win over Dominican…Daemen's freshman class includes All-Western New York selections Rachel Pawlak (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield), Taylor Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y./Immaculata), Leah McDonell (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Cardinal O'Hara) and Natalie Galus (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier)…Galus had a season-high 20 points in the win over STAC and is averaging 11.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks…Heinold was named ECC Rookie of the Week after totaling 23 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win over Molloy…she is averaging 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds…McDonell scored a season-high 21 points in the loss to Queens and is averaging 6.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals…Daemen is shooting 36-percent from the field overall, 27-percent from three-point land and 70-percent from the charity stripe…the Wildcats are scoring 69.4 points and allowing 74.9 points per game…Daemen owns a -7.1 rebounding margin (45.3 / 52.4).
HOME COOKING: The Wildcats will be playing just their fifth home game of the 2013-14 season when they host RWC Tuesday…Daemen went 11-1 at home last year and is 72-10 at Lumsden Gymnasium over the past six seasons…the Wildcats will play seven of their final eight games in the friendly confines of Lumsden Gymnasium.
THE REDHAWKS: Roberts Wesleyan is in Candidacy Year Three of the NCAA Division II membership process…the Redhawks return nine players and three starters from last year's team that finished 16-14 (8-10 ECC) and advanced to the NCCAA Tournament…RWC was voted fifth in the ECC preseason poll…the Redhawks won five of their first six games, before going winless over their next five…RWC is 3-2 over its last five games and is coming off wins over Mercy (79-47) and St. Thomas Aquinas (66-53) this past weekend…ECC wins have come over Daemen (79-69), UDC (78-74), Mercy (79-47() and STAC (66-53)…ECC losses have come against NYIT (62-54), LIU Post (75-47), Queens (69-55), Molloy (90-71), Bridgeport (55-54) and Dowling (53-43)…junior forward Marissa Sell tops the list of returning players…the 2013-14 ECC Preseason Player of the Year, she totaled 15 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to Dowling and is averaging 10.6 points and 10.6 rebounds…Division I transfer Chelsea Sanders, who scored over 800 points during her three seasons at Maryland Eastern Shore, has started all 16 games and is averaging 13.8 points and 7.7 rebounds…she had 18 points in the win over Mercy…sophomore forward Samantha Courtney totaled 19 points and 14 rebounds off the bench in the upset of UDC and is averaging 9.9 points and 7.5 rebounds…additional production has come from junior guard Ashley Cianfriglia (8.1 ppg, 31 3pt fgs)…RWC is shooting 37-percent from the field overall, 31-percent from three-point land and 59-percent from the charity stripe…the Redhawks are scoring 62.4 points and allowing 63.3 points per game…RWC owns a +3.2 rebounding margin (43.4 / 40.2).

DID YOU KNOW?: Daemen established a new school-record for three-point field goals made (16) and attempted (47) in a game during its 88-86 OT win at Molloy on Dec. 20…Raeann Stilwell tied the record for three-pointers made (8) and attempted (20) in a game during the win over Molloy…Stilwell led the team in three-pointers last year (60) and has totaled a league-best 55 triples this season…she has become the first Daemen player to record back-to-back seasons with 50 or more three-pointers since Jessica Ruddell and Joanna Daugenti both turned the trick in 2003-04 and 2004-05…Lindsay Stoddard recently recorded her 400th career assist and enters Tuesday's action ranked seventh in career assists (434) among Daemen's all-time leaders…Stoddard has recorded five or more rebounds in 14 of Daemen's 18 games and has registered double-digit rebounds in five of the last seven games…she ranks first among ECC guards (fourth overall) in rebounds per game (8.4).
