AMHERST, N.Y. – Sophomore Kristen Korzevinski (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) scored a career-high 27 points to lead Queens College to an 80-44 victory over Daemen College here today in East Coast Conference women's basketball action.
Queens, which was voted fourth in the ECC preseason poll, improved to 15-5 overall and 11-3 in the ECC. Daemen, which took the Knights to overtime before suffering a 95-86 loss earlier this year, dropped to 7-16 overall and 4-13 in the league.

Samantha Wozniak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) paced the Wildcats with a career-high 13 points off the bench. Senior
Lindsay Stoddard (Limestone, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) added six points, 12 rebounds and three assists for Daemen, while freshman
Leah McDonell (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Cardinal O'Hara) chipped in nine points and five rebounds.
Korzevinski went 11-for-22 from the field and also registered five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Graduate student Melissa Gardner (Brampton, Ont.) helped the Queens cause with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Madison Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y.), who entered the game averaging a league-high 21.2 points, finished with 12 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Queens held a 7-6 lead four minutes into the game and took control with 17 unanswered points over the next five minutes. Six different players scored during the run, led by Gardiner's seven points. Two free throws by Gardiner with 10:45 left in the half capped the run and gave the Knights a 24-6 lead. The teams traded baskets for the next four minutes and Queens held a 31-14 lead when the Wildcats rallied behind a 9-2 run. Seven of the nine points came from the charity stripe. Freshman
Taylor Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y./Immaculata) capped run by splitting two free throws with 3:29 left before intermission, which cut the deficit to 10 points, 33-23. A three-pointer by Korzevinski gave the Knights a 36-23 lead with just over three minutes left in the half, and the visitors later took their largest lead of the half, 44-25, after two free throws by Korzevinski at the 1:32 mark. Queens took a 44-28 lead into the break.
Queens opened the second half with a 16-2 run for a 60-30 lead, and Daemen came no closer than 28 points the rest of the way.
Queens shot 44-percent (32-72) from the field, while Daemen was good on just 24-percent (13-54) of its attempts. Daemen, which entered the game averaging seven three-pointers a game, was just 1-for-9 from downtown in the first half and finished 2-for-21 overall from behind the arc. The Wildcats made 15-of-18 free throws in the first half and finished 16-for-20 from the charity stripe overall.
Queens forced Daemen into 26 turnovers, which the Knights converted into a 32-7 edge in points off turnovers. The visitors also posted an edge in points in the paint (42-14) and second-chance points (13-5).
Daemen is idle until Friday (Feb. 14) when it travels to the University of the District of Columbia for an ECC game. UDC, which defeated Daemen 74-63 earlier this year, stands at 15-4 overall and 11-2 in the league.
