AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College women's volleyball player Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) has been named the East Coast Conference Setter of the Week for September 22-28.  McKrell, a 5-foot-8 freshman setter, totaled 84 assists in her two matches last week for a total of 10.5 assists per set to pick up the weekly honor.

McKrell opened the week with a career-high 63 assists during Daemen's five-set loss to Kutztown University in a neutral site match held at Lock Haven University last Saturday, September 27.  McKrell's whopping assist total in the match was the highest single-match output from anyone in the ECC this season, and was the most assists in a match by a Daemen player since Kimmie Mack (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) totaled 55 in a four-set loss to Walsh University on October 31, 2009.

McKrell went on to add 21 assists in Daemen's three-set victory over Mercy College on Sunday, September 28, giving Daemen its first win of the season, both overall and in league play, while marking the 150th win in the 10-year tenure of head coach Mark Parisi.

With just 14 collegiate matches under her belt, McKrell has already established herself as one of the top setters in the conference.  She leads Daemen with 275 total assists and ranks ninth in the ECC in assists per set (5.98).

McKrell and the Wildcats (1-14, 1-3 ECC) begin a busy week by viciting Le Moyne College on Wednesday night (October 1, 5 p.m.) before traveling further downstate for conference road matches at Queens College (Friday, October 3, 7 p.m.) and Molloy College (Saturday, October 4, 12 p.m.).
