AMHERST, N.Y. - For the third time this season, and the second-straight week, Daemen College volleyball player
Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) has been named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week, picking up the honor this time around for matches played between October 13-19.
Drzymala, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, notched double-doubles in two of Daemen's three matches last week. Â After notching seven kills and seven digs in last Wednesday's road win at Roberts Wesleyan College, Drzymala turned it up with back-to-back double-doubles against two of the upper-echelon teams in the conference. Â In a loss to Dowling College on Friday, Drzymala compiled 12 kills and 15 digs. Â She went on to tally 14 kills and 10 digs in Saturday's loss to first-place University of Bridgeport.
The pair of double-doubles last week give Drzymala seven on the season. Â Five of those have come in Daemen's last seven matches as she's helped the team to a 10-11 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in ECC play that has the Wildcats in the hunt for an ECC Tournament berth.
Drzymala, who previously received ECC Rookie of the Week honors for
September 8-13 and
October 5-12, leads the team this season in several offensive categories, including kills (266), kills per set (3.50), hitting attempts (736) and service aces (41), while also contributing 180 digs and 21 blocks defensively to rank third on the team in both. Â She currently ranks second among all ECC players in kills and service aces.
Drzymala and the Wildcats look to jump back in the win column when they host Roberts Wesleyan tonight at 7:30 p.m.
