Paw Prints E-Newsletter: Volume 12

From The Director of Athletics' Desk...

It is hard to believe that the month of June is almost over.  I am excited to share that Daemen Athletics submitted what we anticipate to be our final NCAA Annual Report.  The submission marked the fourth time that the College put together a document for the NCAA Division II Membership Committee that demonstrated the path and progress of our athletic program.  The document was more than 1110 pages and touched upon everything from our NCAA rules compliance program, facilities master plan, strategic plan, academic and athletic performance recap and revenue production.  It has always been a huge task that involves various elements from campus.  I am very thankful and proud of the teamwork behind this report and I do believe it shows how truly far Daemen Athletics has come since June of 2011 when we started the pursuit of NCAA Membership.

The next step for Daemen Athletics is a review by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee, which will take place in early July.  As has been the case in years past, we anticipate learning of our status in mid-July.  Having worked for the NCAA for many years, I know not to predict a decision.  I can tell you that Daemen Athletics has used the four-year membership process (including the application year) to truly build a model NCAA Division II athletic program focused on the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes.

Daemen Athletics is not sitting idle as we wait for the NCAA decision!  We are hard at work updating our facility in preparation for the 2015-16 season.  I am excited to share with you that we have secured funding to enclose our facility to include a Student-Athlete Academic Center.  We are also building a larger and more up-to-date athletic training facility in the old weight room area.  Once those two projects are complete we will be building a laundry facility and new soccer coaches' suite.  While we appreciate the financial support the College has committed to Daemen Athletics, I am happy to report that these renovations and additions are primarily funded by generous donations from our supporters or through our various revenue generating events.

Daemen Athletics has spent June looking at our structure and developing new positions to account for our oversight of club sports and campus recreation, which will begin August 1.  As I have mentioned before in Paw Prints, we have a fabulous staff working behind the scenes for the College to ensure a quality athletic experience for all.  I look forward to announcing new staff and new titles for current staff in the next month.

Thanks for taking time read about all that is going on in Daemen Athletics.  I hope that you can join us in celebrating all of our progress at our Third Annual Wildcat Golf Classic on August 13 at Glen Oak golf course in East Amherst, New York. For information on that event or Daemen Athletics in general, please contact me at bniland@daemen.edu or (716) 472-5951.

As always, we are grateful for your support of Daemen Athletics and I look forward to sharing more information on the progress of the program next month.

Be FIERCE!
