Daemen swept Molloy College in straight sets (25-13, 25-20, 25-14) in their annual Dig Pink Game, in support of breast cancer awareness and research. With the win, Daemen improved to 15-6 overall and 7-1 in the conference. Molloy dropped to 4-19 on the season and 1-5 in the league. Today's match marked the ninth time the two have faced off, Daemen now leads the all-time series 7-2. Ashley Drzymala (West, Seneca, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster), Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster), and Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania / Targu Mures) led a well-balanced offense, registering nine, nine, and eight kills respectively. Freshmen setters, Bailey Dolegowski (Marilla, N.Y. / St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Sydney MacInnis (Superior, Colo. / Fairview) guided the Wildcats, dishing out 19 and 16 assists apiece. Daemen's defense held their opponent to a mere .011 team hitting percentage, recording a match-total 43 digs. Kailey Ballou (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) paved the way with a match-high 14 digs, and added 4 assists. Dolegowski dug 10 balls in the win, for her career 7th double-double. Action went back-and-forth in the opening set, with the two teams knotted 7-7. Daemen capitalized on Molloy errors to take the two-point lead. The Wildcats won four straight points to build their lead, 12-8, which featured kills from Meghan Ballou and Ashley Drzymala. Molloy was forced to call a timeout after a 5-0 Daemen spurt, but the Knights could not impede the Wildcat momentum, as they led 22-11. Amber Drzymala closed the set with a kill to the middle of the Molloy defense, to finish 25-13. The Wildcats ousted the Knights in team hitting percentage with an impressive .344, compared to their -.097. The second set began in similar fashion, tied in the early going 10-10. The Wildcats used a 4-1 burst, to take the slight advantage, 14-11, throttled by a monstrous double-block from Amber Drzymala and Apostol. Daemen used a 5-point run on the service of MacInnis, that featured kills from Melissa Postek (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) and Amber Drzymala, to lead 18-12. Trailing, 24-17, the Lions scored four consecutive points to pull within four, but Daemen would triumph 25-20. Daemen broke open the third set with four straight points, which included three Molloy errors and a kill by Amber Drzymala. However, the Lions battled back to even the mark 5-5. A kill from Ashley Drzymala, sandwiched between two kills by Apostol, gave Daemen the 8-5 edge. The Wildcats continued to build on their lead with three consecutive scores, leading 13-7. Seven continuous points on the serve of Ashley Drzymala, staked Daemen to a 21-10 supremacy. Daemen remained steady, winning the set and match 25-14. Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.) Danielle Williams (Alba, Texas) posted seven and five kills respectively, to lead the Molloy offense. Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) handed out a match-high 20 kills, and added six digs. Defensively, Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) had a team-high 12 digs in the losing effort. The Wildcats continue East Coast Conference action tomorrow afternoon at Lumsden Gymnasium. Daemen faces off against Queens College at 12:00 p.m. In their first meeting, the Wildcats rallied from being down two sets, to oust the Knights in a five-set thriller. The Student- Athlete Advisory Committee is sponsoring it's first-ever Halloween Bash in conjunction with tomorrows match.
