The Wildcats scored just five third-quarter points, allowing the Firebirds to close the gap. Daemen dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the league, while the Firebirds improved to 2-6 on the season and 1-0 in the ECC. Freshman Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y./Immaculata) had a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats. The 6-foot Buffalo native canned five three-pointers in 35 minutes of action. Senior Leah McDonell (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Cardinal O'Hara) went 6-for-9 from the field for 13 points, marking her sixth game this season in double-figures. Only two other Daemen players made their way to the scoresheet as Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) added eight points and Sydney Jones (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) notched three to round out the Wildcat scoring. UDC forced 23 Daemen turnovers and the hosts converted the miscues into 18 points. The Firebirds hit 9-of-17 free throws compared to the Wildcats who were limited to just 2-of-5 at the charity stripe. Senior Shantrel Oliver (Columbia, Md.) led the Firebirds with 17 points, connecting on 6-of-18 shots overall, including 2-for-5 from three-point land. UDC answered with a made jumper, but Pringle nailed down a jump shot to give the Wildcats a 15-10 lead as play headed into the second quarter. The Firebirds opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run that featured a jump shot and three-pointer by Bianca White, giving the hosts a slim one-point advantage (18-17). Daemen responded with three unanswered triples from Heinold, Pringle, and McDonell to regain the lead 26-18. The squads traded baskets the rest of the half and Daemen took a 31-23 lead into the break. The Wildcats shot 13-of-26 from the field and 5-of-12 from beyond the arc in the first half. UDC produced 13 of their 23 first-half points off of Daemen turnovers as the Wildcats committed 14 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. The Wildcats took their biggest lead of the game on a layup by McDonell to open up the third quarter (33-23). However, Daemen went cold the rest of the way and saw their double-figure lead dissolve. The Wildcats scored just three points in eight minutes of action to close out the third. UDC used a 12-3 spurt to narrow the Daemen gap 36-35 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. In the first minute of the fourth, Heinold connected on a three-ball and Pringle netted a layup for a four-point advantage (41-37).
