Le Moyne Rallies Past Daemen In Five Sets

DEWITT, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's volleyball team opened up a two-sets-to-none lead but couldn't seal the deal, eventually falling in five sets to host Le Moyne College this evening (25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 12-15).

With the loss, Daemen falls to 5-4 overall this season.  The match tonight marked the fourth match that has gone the distance for Daemen already this season (2-2 in those matches).  It was also a mirror image of the match between these teams last season at Lumsden Gymnasium when it was Le Moyne that took the first two sets before falling in five.

Le Moyne, which returns 12 players from its 2015 team that achieved the program's first 20-win season since 2006, improved to 7-2 with the win this evening, extending their season-best winning streak to four straight.  Although Daemen leads the all-time series 5-3, Le Moyne has now won two of the last three meetings.

Sophomore right-side hitter Jessica Miller (Williamsville, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins' offense with a match-high 21 kills.  Even more impressive was the fact Miller committed just four hitting errors in 42 attempts (.405 hitting percentage).

Senior outside hitter Natalie Casson (Kingman, Ariz.) chipped in with 13 kills and 11 digs, while junior setter Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) dished out 52 assists.  Sophomore Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the LC defense with 21 digs.

For Daemen, senior outside hitter Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) posted her fifth double-double in the last six matches with 18 kills and 12 digs.  Courtney Scanlan (Ellicottville, N.Y./Stony Brook University), Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania/Targu Mures), Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Courtney Bernard (Lancaster, Ohio/Fairfield Union) all posted double-figure kills as well.

Freshmen Bailey Dolegowski (Marilla, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Jess Kranz (Depew, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) also contributed in a losing effort.  Dolegowski registered her fifth double-double of the season (52 assists, 15 digs) and her fourth match of the year with 50 or more assists.  Kranz dug out 20 balls to lead the Wildcat defense.

Daemen plays next at Brock University (Ont.) in an exhibition match this Friday, September 16, before returning to regular season action the following day by visiting California University (Pa.).
