ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team saw its five scorers place between 21st and 207th individually today to finish in 16th place in the team standings (out of 29 competiting teams) at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational held at Genesee Valley Park near the convergence of Red Creek, the Genesee River and the New York State Barge Canal.
Daemen accumulated 499 points in the 8K race. Mount Union University was the top-performing team today, amassing a meet-low 62 points with all five its scorers finishing 27th or better. Mount Union held a comfortable lead ahead of second-place Case Western Reserve University (98 points) and third-place St. Lawrence University (117 points).
It was Mount Union's Preston Myers who set the pace, winning the race with a time of 25:38.4, one of five athletes to submit a sub-26-minute time on the day. Just three seconds separated second-place Joseph Smith of St. Lawrence (25:43.4) and fourth-place James Bailey of Rochester Institute of Technology (25:46.5).
Leading the way for Daemen today was junior
Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North). Roginson, who has now been the Wildcats' top finisher in both of their races this season, finished 21st out of 318 total competitors today with a time of 26:57.6.
Roginson was backed up today by senior
Nigel Cordulla (Cheektowaga, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) and freshman
Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore). Cordulla finished in 149th place with a time of 29:04.6 while Bodnar came in 157th place with his time of 29:13.6.
Rounding out Daemen's scorers today was redshirt-sophomore
Zach Barnes (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown CC) and sophomore
Timothy Poole (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) who finished 173rd and 207th with times of 29:36.2 and 30:47.9, respectively.
Daemen will return to Rochester next Saturday, September 24 for the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College.
