BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) and freshman Tara Pede (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) both recorded top-20 finishes to pace the Daemen College women's cross country team at the Canisius Alumni Classic held today at Delaware Park.
The Wildcats finished second out of three non-NCAA Division I teams. The 5K race featured eight total teams, including five NCAA Division I affiliates, and was scored separately for Division I and non-Division I teams.
Daemen amassed 52 points in the non-Division I team standings today. Waterloo University claimed the non-Division I title with 22 points. Host Canisius College topped the Division I portion of the standings. Siobhan Quinn of Canisius finished first among the 93 contestants with a time of 17:10.2.
Trabert registered her ninth career top-10 finish today, as she placed eighth with a time of 18:55.6. Trabert has now been the top Daemen finisher in each of the last three races.
Pede continued her solid rookie season, as she posted her season-best time for 5K race and placed 16th overall with a time of 19:24.4. Her time was fourth best among freshmen in the race. Fellow rookie Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y./Alden) also recorded her season-best time for a 5K race and finished 40th with a time of 20:30.1.
Red-shirt junior Emily Bradley (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint), red-shirt senior Katherine Robinson (Pasadena, Calf./Pasadena) and freshman Mackenzie Tubbs (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira) also contributed to Daemen's team score today. Bradley placed 64th (21:33.5) and was followed closely by Robinson (21:34.4), while Tubbs finished 68th (21:37.6).
Freshman Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y./Alden), sophomore Shania LiVecchi (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West), red-shirt freshman Morgan Munger (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) and sophomore Elisia Panipinto (Ovid, N.Y./South Seneca) also competed for Daemen, but did not figure in the team scoring. Dusza placed placed 76th (22:35.7), LiVecchi finished 77th (22:36.2), Munger placed 80th (23:16.4) and Panipinto finished 86th (24:53.1).
Daemen returns to action next weekend (Oct. 21) when it travels to Old Westbury, N.Y. to take part in the East Coast Conference Championships.
