Institute of Technology today at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. The loss drops Daemen to an even 8-8 this season, including a 1-5 mark in league play. The NYIT Bears (5-3 overall), preseason favorites to win a sixth-straight ECC crown, stayed in the hunt for a conference tournament berth by evening their league record at 3-3. The match opened with NYIT sweeping through doubles action to take a 3-0 lead. At the top of the lineup, Lena Dimmer and Ivana Andric won 8-2 over Daemen freshmen Lorissa Yuen (Portland, Ore.) and Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.). In the No. 2 position, it was NYIT's Kaitlin Byrnes and Alessia Rossetti knocking off DC's Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) 8-1, snapping the latter's three-match winning streak. And in third doubles, Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y.) were bested 8-3 by the Bears' Rosa LaCorte and Antonella Lopez. Daemen couldn't break through as the match shifted to singles play. Rossetti and LaCorte opened things up with wins at third and sixth singles, respectively, and neither dropped a game. Yuen battled Dimmer at the top of the lineup, but fell 6-4, 6-3. Dimmer is the reigning ECC Player of the Year. Paschoalin and Ringler both dropped 7-5 second sets in their respective matches at second and fourth singles, respectively. Andric won over Paschoalin (6-0, 7-5) and Byrnes downed Ringler (6-1, 7-5). Robins was the lone Daemen player to grab a set, opening her match at fifth singles vs. Lopez with a 7-5 win. But Lopez rallied to take the next two sets (6-3, 1-0) to win the match. Daemen, which sits one shy of matching the team record for wins in a season, concludes the fall portion of its 2017-18 season by hosting Long Island University Post in another ECC dual match Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.Print Friendly Version
