AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to visiting LIU Post in East Coast Conference action, today at Lumsden Gymnasium.  The Pioneers expelled the Wildcats 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.

Daemen dropped to 11-14 overall and 7-5 in the conference; the Wildcats have lost four of their last six matches, but still remain in contention for an ECC playoff berth.  LIU Post improved to 26-4 overall with a 10-2 league mark in today's sweep.  With the win, the Pioneers remain locked at the top of the conference standings with the Molloy Lions.

The Pioneers were led by senior outside hitter Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.), who tallied a match-high 16 digs and registered nine digs, seven blocks and two aces.  LIU Post put up an impressive eleven blocks, forcing 23 Daemen attack errors and a slim .143 attack percentage.

Daemen took an 8-7 lead on a kill from Heritz in the opening set, but was outscored by the Pioneers 11-4, trailing 12-18.  LIU Post used another 5-3 run to widen their lead 23-15, the spurt included three Daemen errors.  The Wildcats were unable to catch the Pioneers, who took the first frame 25-16.

In the second set, LIU jumped out to a quick 4-0 start on the serve of Rachel Londot (Utica, Ohio), the squad's top attacker.  The Wildcats responded with their own three-point spurt to close the gap 4-3.  The run included two kills from Heritz and one from freshman middle blocker Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.).  The Pioneers extended their lead 21-12, but Daemen battled back once again with five-straight points on the serve of Wicker to close the deficit 21-17.  However, it was not enough as the visiting team cruised to a 25-20 second set win.

The Wildcats held a 16-9 lead in the closing set, but LIU outscored the Wildcats 10-3 to steal the lead 19-18.  Daemen was unable to catch an impressive Pioneer squad, who went on to win the third and final set 25-21.
