Daemen Keglers Go 1-2 Vs. Crosstown Rival Medaille

In Wildcats First Action Since November, Team Avoids Sweep With 4-3 Win In Best-Of-7 Baker Match

KENMORE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team resumed its 2016-17 season this evening by taking one of three matches against Medaille College at Classic Lanes.

Daemen, under the leadership of interim head coach David Zajac, scored a dramatic 4-3 victory in the nightcap, a best-of-seven Baker format match, to avoid the sweep at the hands of their crosstown rivals.  After the teams split the first two games of the series (Medaille 168-155, Daemen 157-146), the Mavericks took a 2-1 lead with a 175-149 win in the third.  But, Daemen stormed back with consecutive wins in the fourth (166-154) and fifth (194-146) games.  Medaille forced the match to a seventh and deciding game with a 177-130 win in the sixth.  The Wildcats went on to rout the Mavs 192-136 in the decisive game.

Prior to that, Medaille opened the evening with a pair of wins in two traditional, team-style matches.  The Mavs were 784-711 winners in the first match of the night, despite a round of 180 by Daemen freshman Rachel Steele (Rensselaer, N.Y./Columbia).  In the second match, it was an 888-848 win for Medaille.  Freshman Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) and redshirt-sophomore Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) paced Daemen with rounds of 213 and 202, respectively.  The losses at the outset snapped Daemen's seven-match winning streak.

The results this evening pushed Daemen's record to 10-11 this season, while Medaille jumped to 30-42.  It was Daemen's first action since sweeping a three-match set vs. Thiel College back on November 19.

Daemen is now idle until they partake in the Molloy Lions Invitational on February 25 on Long Island.
