Apostol Selected To Vulcan Invitational All-Tournament Team

CALIFORNIA, PA. – Sophomore Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romania) of the Daemen College women's volleyball team was selected to the Cal Vulcan Invitational All-Tournament Team for her performances over the weekend (Sept. 8-9).  Apostol and the Wildcats dropped to 1-6 on the 2017 season while posting a 0-4 tournament mark. 
 
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker posted 45 kills, ten total blocks, ten digs and six service aces in four matches to earn a spot on the six-person All-Tournament team.  Additional selections included Rachel Priore (California University), Sasha Johnson (Davis & Elkins), Mackenzie Harrison (Fairmont State), Bethany Fisher (Lake Erie) and Mikayla Porr (Le Moyne).
 
In the 3-1 loss to Davis & Elkins out of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, Apostol tallied a match-high three service aces and registered six kills.  Later that day, she led the Wildcat offense, nailing down 12 kills for a .219 attack percentage in another 3-1 deficit to the Lake Erie Storm.
 
On Saturday's opener, Apostol paced the Daemen attack once again with a team-high 15 kills, only committing three errors for an impressive .522 hitting percentage.  She also added three digs in the 3-0 defeat to Fairmont State University.  In the last match of the tournament, Apostol registered another double-digit kill performance with 10.  She continued her dominant performance up front, posting a game-high seven blocks in the thrilling five-set loss to the Cal Vulcans. 
 
Overall Apostol ranks first in blocks (20), second in service aces (9) and third in kills (58) on the Daemen squad. 
 
Apostol and the Wildcats return to the Keystone State tomorrow September 12, playing the reigning PSAC Tournament Champions, Gannon University.  The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
