Women's Cross Country Finishes 8th At Mike Woods Invitational

MT. MORRIS, N.Y. - Nine runners from the Daemen College women's cross country team registered career-best times for a 6K race while helping the Wildcats to an eighth-place finish (out of 15 competing teams) at the Mike Woods Invitational hosted at Letchworth State Park today by the State University of New York at Geneseo. Four of Daemen's five scorers posted top-100 finishes as the Wildcats accumulated 223 points in the race standings.

Meet host Geneseo was the top finishing collegiate team with 38 points; the Knights finished second overall behind their alumni squad with saw its five scorers finish among the top 12 individuals today. Geneseo is the No. 4 ranked team in the latest NCAA Division III poll from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Jenny Bottomley from Laurentian University won the race today with a time of 21:27.0, edging out Geneseo's Elise Ramirez who finished five seconds behind the pace (21:32.7). Today's race included 197 total competitors.

Senior Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats for the second-straight meet. The 2016 first-team All-East Coast Conference performer made her season debut with a fourth-place finish at last weekend's Harry F. Anderson Invitational. Today, Trabert finished 13th with a time of 22:30.0.

Three Daemen freshman figured in the scoring for the fourth consecutive race, and all three posted career-best 6K times. Tara Pede (Schenectady, N.Y.) came in 27th place with a time of 23:23.0, shaving 55 seconds off her previous best time (24:18.8) which was set Sept. 15 at the Stampede Invitational. Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) went sub-24 minutes for the first time in her career, crossing the finish line today in 23:55.4 to place 51st overall. Her previous career-best time, also set at the Stampede Invitational, was 25:20.1. Mackenzie Tubbs (Elmira, N.Y.) was also more than a minute better from her previous best time (25:36.0), which was also set at the Stampede Invitational. Tubbs came in 78th place today with a time of 24:31.1.

Redshirt senior Katherine Robinson (Pasadena, Calif.) rounded out the Wildcats' scorers today, placing 113th with a time of 25:15.4. Robinson has now figured in the scoring in three consecutive races, and today's meet marked the 22nd of her career.

The Wildcats also saw a bevy of underclassmen set career-bests without figuring in the scoring today. Sophomore Shania LiVecchi (West Seneca, N.Y.) narrowly missed a top-five finish amongst her teammates, placing 115th overall with a career-best time of 25:18.9. Freshman Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.) came in 122nd place with a career-best time of 25:33.8. Freshman Taya Mucha (Lockport, N.Y.) finished in 142nd place with a career-best time of 26:17.9. Redshirt junior Emily Bradley (Lockport, N.Y.) placed 157th with a career-best time of 26:49.3. Redshirt freshman Morgan Munger (Oakfield, N.Y.) placd 168th with a career-best time of 28:02.0. Lastly, sophomore Elisia Panipinto (Ovid, N.Y.) finished 176th with a career-best time of 28:43.2.

Daemen is idle until Saturday, Oct. 14 when the team will partake in the Canisius Alumni Classic. That meet will the Wildcats' last tune up opportunity for the East Coast Conference Championship meet which is slated for Saturday, Oct. 21.
