Daemen (2-1), which had gotten off to the first 2-0 start to a season in team history following wins over St. Michael's College (6-3 on Sept. 1) and American International College (7-2 on Sept. 3), could not make it a perfect three-for-three against Northeast-10 Conference opponents over this long Labor Day weekend. Bentley, coming off a 15-9 campaign in 2016 and picked to finish sixth out of 13 teams in the NE-10 this season, grabbed the win in their season opener, but not before sweating it out with Daemen taking a 2-1 lead coming out doubles play. Freshman Lorissa Yuen (Portland, Ore.) teamed once again with senior Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) to win a point for the Wildcats in the first doubles position. Yuen and Ringler, now 3-0 as a pair this season, downed Bentley's Hannah Fabianski and Katie Brandow, 8-4. The Wildcats also picked up a point in the third doubles position as freshman Christina Stasiuk (Lancaster, N.Y.) and junior Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y.) scored an easy 8-1 win over Tiffany Suchanek and Corrie MacLean. But, Daemen managed just one point in singles play as the momentum shifted in favor of the host Falcons. Freshman Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) was the lone winner for Daemen, scoring a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Suchanek in the second singles position. Daemen is back on the road next weekend to open East Coast Conference play, first facing league powerhouse Queens College (Saturday, Sept. 9) before squaring off with Molloy College (Sunday, Sept. 10).
